Odoo will DATEV ersetzen.

This article is published in German. Short summary:

An Odoo partner recently posted on LinkedIn that "Odoo 20 replaces DATEV" – yet admitted in the same breath that 90 to 95 percent of German tax advisers work strictly with DATEV and are not open to other systems. His own verdict: "sort of." For the classic mid-market firm little changes day to day, because the data ends up being exported to DATEV anyway.

Odoo 20 does bring a direct ELSTER connection for Germany (and FinanzOnline for Austria), so the VAT return can run straight from the ERP without the DATEV detour. Technically a step forward – but economically it targets a small group: companies that run their accounting 100 percent in-house, without a tax adviser. For the large majority, the tax adviser still has a say in which software runs, and a new ERP feature does not change that.

Exact Online Premium takes the other route on purpose: it ships its own DATEV interfaces "to support existing accounting solutions", plus direct access for the tax adviser. Not a replacement – a bridge. The ERP handles inventory, orders, stock and costing in one system; the financial accounting stays where adviser and client have known it for years. Two honest side notes from the same post – an offline mode rolled out after market feedback, and Claude now running natively in Odoo alongside ChatGPT and Gemini – match how PRODVIS works: understand the starting point, limit scope, run a proof of concept, implement, accompany go-live, and only add AI agents once the data foundation in the ERP is right. Odoo sells liberation from the tax adviser; PRODVIS and Exact Online Premium sell collaboration with them. Think global, act local: for the German mid-market the bridge is the more realistic bet as long as 90 percent of tax advisers stay on DATEV.
